Men's Waterproof Hiking Shoes & Boots

Men's waterproof hiking shoes and boots — Gore-Tex® uppers built for AU rain, creek crossings, and alpine slush. Altra's FootShape™ toe box and zero-drop platform throughout, with rugged outsoles tuned for the Lone Peak and Olympus hike-specific variants.

Men's Waterproof Hiking Shoes & Boots — Built for the Wet Stuff

Australia's best hiking happens in conditions most boots aren't built for: alpine winters, Tasmanian shoulder seasons, rainforest creek crossings, and the kind of wet-weather day walks where dry feet decide whether you keep going. Altra's men's waterproof hiking range pairs proven trail-running design with GORE-TEX® waterproof linings, so your feet stay dry without losing the natural-foot-shape comfort that makes Altra worth wearing in the first place.

Every shoe in the range starts with the foundations that define every Altra: a roomy FootShape™ toe box for natural toe splay, a Zero-to-Low Drop platform for balanced foot placement, and a Vibram® Megagrip outsole for confident grip on wet rock, mud, and slippery boardwalks.

The men's waterproof lineup covers two body styles. Mid-cut waterproof boots like the Men's Lone Peak 9 Waterproof Mid, Men's Olympus 6 Hike Mid GTX, Men's Timp 6 Mid GTX, and Men's Timp Hiker GTX add ankle support for multi-day walks, alpine routes, and pack-carrying days. Low-cut waterproof shoes like the Men's Olympus 6 Hike Low GTX, Men's Lone Peak 9+ GTX, and Men's Timp 5 GTX bring the same waterproof protection in a faster, more flexible package — a great fit for day walks and fastpacking. The Men's Torin 8 GTX rounds out the range as a waterproof road-and-walking option for wet-weather commuters.

Find the Right Waterproof Hiker for You

For multi-day walks with a pack — the Larapinta in autumn, the AAWT, the Bibbulmun in winter — the Lone Peak 9 Waterproof Mid and Olympus 6 Hike Mid GTX are the standouts. Mid-cut ankle support, GORE-TEX® waterproofing, plush cushioning under load, and durable uppers built for long-distance trail life.

For day walks and weekend hikes in wet weather, low-cut GTX shoes give you most of the protection without the weight. The Olympus 6 Hike Low GTX brings maximum cushioning in a flexible, faster-feeling package. The Lone Peak 9+ GTX takes our most-loved trail shoe and adds GORE-TEX® waterproofing.

For alpine routes and rocky terrain, the Timp Hiker GTX and Timp 6 Mid GTX add structural support for off-trail, scree, and rough ground while staying lighter than traditional alpine boots.

For wet-weather road walking and commuting, the Torin 8 GTX gives you Altra's most popular road shoe with a waterproof upper — perfect for Melbourne winters or rainy commutes.

What "Waterproof" Actually Means in Altra

Every GTX-marked Altra uses a GORE-TEX® lining sandwiched between the outer upper and the inner sock liner. That lining keeps water out while still letting moisture vapour from your foot escape — so your feet stay dry both from rain and from your own sweat. The technology is laminated to the inside of the upper, meaning the shoe still looks and breathes like a regular Altra, just with the added barrier.

Note: waterproof linings stop water entering through the upper, but water can still get in over the top of the shoe in deep crossings. For that reason, mid-cut boots offer more reliable wet-weather coverage than low-cut shoes when you're stepping through ankle-deep water.
